Birdies for Butterflies is a biennial charity golf tournament inspired by Larina McClain's nephew, William, who was born with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). EB is a chronic and painful genetic skin disorder with no known cure.

Children with EB are referred to as 'Butterfly Children' because their skin is as delicate as a butterfly’s wings. EB is caused by a faulty gene that makes the skin very delicate. This means even the slightest friction from everyday activities like eating or wearing clothing can cause children with EB's skin to blister and tear. Bandages worn to protect and heal their skin must be changed regularly--a long and painful process that can take three adults up to four hours to complete.

What started as a small fundraiser has developed into one of the most successful charity golf tournaments in Colorado. The event is a fun way to bring awareness to EB and raise money for children, like William, who live with this terrible condition. Birdies for Butterflies is operated by volunteers and all profits raised directly benefit children with EB.
